Modern terrorists do not attack with explosive devices but
instead use computer viruses.
Cyber terrorists use information technology for personal gain or
widespread damage. This is
frightening because computer networks (intelligence -military, government,
financial and mass media) could all be vulnerable to attack.
Cyber terrorism is appealing to criminals because they can
remain anonymous while launching an attack from anywhere in the world
especially from a basement computer without warning – it is fast, easy,
inexpensive and can cause extensive damage with fatalities.
We have to work together to build successful counter cyber
terrorist programs by sharing intelligence and new technologies. Individuals
may have to give up some privacy as well to ensure more cyber security – this
is the new reality.
I agree, in order to mitigate the factors that contribute to the creation of a modern "terrorist" society must work together to help counter the cyber programs that enable terrorist networks to expand!
ReplyDeleteI took an entirely different stand in my response to this question; however, I still agree with your ideas completely! This blog post frightened me because cyber terrorists are undoubtably becoming a greater concern with the amount of technological intelligence available today. I like that you provided a possible way to combat this issue! I feel that the modern terrorist can also be greatly influenced by the media since several terrorists have been thought to have been "brainwashed" by others over the internet. The effect of our technology is definitely becoming a great concern in terms of terrorism.
